About

Dr. Pius Ryan brings both scholarly depth and lived experience to his work in public education. He holds a Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Policy from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Education in School Psychology from UBC, and both a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Linguistics and a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland. His academic path reflects a longstanding commitment to understanding not only how schools function, but how they shape human development, belonging, and possibility.

Since 2022, Dr. Ryan has served as Superintendent of Schools for the North Vancouver School District. His leadership is grounded in the belief that public education is both an intellectual and a moral endeavour…one that calls for stewardship, collaboration, and care. He is a co-author of Educere, written with Rick Ryan.

Beyond his formal credentials, Dr. Ryan is a talented musician, and his love of music informs his philosophy of comprehensive education. He believes students thrive when they are meaningfully connected to their school communities, whether through athletics, music, fine and performing arts, service initiatives, or participation on a club or team. For Dr. Ryan, these experiences are integral to the formation of confident, capable young people. His leadership reflects a conviction that students do best when their intellectual growth is woven together with creativity, contribution, and connection.
